Ice Volcanos Develop Over Lake Michigan

A latest chilly snap has resulted in a curious phenomenon occurring on Lake Michigan: the formation of ice volcanoes. The National Weather Service (NWS) Grand Rapids uploaded a snap to Twitter, together with the caption: “It was an awesome day to go to the seaside and watch the waves work together with the ice. Right here’s a pair ‘ice volcanoes’ erupting at Oval Beach on Sunday, February 16, 2020.”

Tom Niziol, a contributor for Weather Underground’s Category 6 weblog, stated they had been “among the greatest photographs of ice volcanoes” he’d ever seen. Writing in a Facebook post, he defined that ice volcanoes type as water is pushed beneath the ice sheet – because the stress builds up the water shoots out by means of holes within the ice.
